Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Yuma Fire Damaged Home and SERVPRO Restoration

Restoration jobs that require construction are typically done in two primary phases: mitigation and reconstruction.  In the mitigation phase all non-salvageable materials and contents are removed and cleared away, and the salvageable materials and contents are restored by repairing and sanding, cleaning and deodorizing.  The photos are a sunroom in Yuma that was severely damaged by a house fire.  The sunroom was an add-on, created by enclosing a covered patio. As you can see, the damage spread to other rooms within the structure.

The hole in the drywall ceiling in the top left of the Before Photo is where the firefighters punched through to help vent away heat and smoke, and check for any fire or embers burning in that part of the attic. Drywall, not charred by the flames, and only has smoke or soot damage can usually be restored. However, when it has been damaged as illustrated or exposed to high heat and flames, it must be replaced.  Stucco, which is the concrete-based wall coating in this sunroom, is generally not combustible and can often endure extreme heat without significant damage. In this case, the stucco walls sustained only minor soot and smoke damage which SERVPRO FST fire and smoke damage technicians can wipe down, and then deodorize and repaint the rough surface. This rehabilitation is a final step not yet done. The lighting, ceiling fan, and other fixtures must be removed to make way for the cleaning and repairs. Lighting fixtures can be cleaned and reinstalled unless damaged by heat, and due to cost are often replaced. We strive to restore and not replace building elements, fixtures, and possessions whenever possible. Antique or custom lighting fixtures, or other fixtures and contents of particular importance to our customer, are removed and usually taken off-site to be cleaned, rewired or otherwise restored and then reinstalled when construction is complete.

Our goal is to meet and beat the expectations of our clients and preserve their possessions. The After Photo is post-mitigation, and at this point, the home is ready for repairs and reconstruction to begin. Our SERVPRO of El Centro / Salton City technicians have the skills and the equipment stocked in our Green Fleet which is ready, at a moments notice, to travel to a fire-loss emergency in Yuma.
