SERVPRO Technicians Resolve Slab Leak In El Centro Home

Our experienced professionals restored a home following a water line break in the foundation slab.

Pipes are vital to moving water throughout your El Centro home, yet they are often one of the last things many homeowners think to inspect for wear and degradation. More often than not, homeowners do not realize just how lousy plumbing throughout their home has gotten until a water loss incident occurs.

Sometimes piping and segments of plumbing are intentionally inaccessible, intent on keeping them from exposure to elements and hopefully preserving them for extended periods. Shifts in the concrete slab and foundation can strain these pipes, and in some cases cause them to break. That is what happened with the home in the short video here.

Amber Chase, a General Manager for our franchise, takes you through the steps required to isolate the incident and get to work on restoring the property. A water line for the house broke, resulting in a slab leak that affected the first floor of the home.  In situations like this, our SERVPRO technicians have to work quickly to locate the source of the problem and to make a path through construction materials to access it.

This approach is why the video showcases some of the flooring removed from the hallway where the break was believed to be. Sound amplification equipment gets used to pinpoint the precise location of the damaged pipe so that more material does not need to get removed to locate it and to repair the damage ultimately.

As with any water loss situation, drying and extraction are critical components. While much of the extraction was resolved by our SERVPRO technicians removing the oversaturated materials, drying is a more involved step. High-powered air movers and dehumidifiers get used here to pull the moisture out from all of the affected areas.

You might not put a lot of thought and stock into the structural integrity and degradation of the slab or foundation of your home, but once you have a water loss incident, you need to have the right skilled hands there quickly to help mitigate the potential damage.
